Cello-percussion duo UmeDuo performs internationally with a diverse repertoire and has established itself as one of the most innovative and creative chamber music groups on the Swedish music scene. The sisters Karolina Öhman (cello) and Erika Öhman (percussion) founded the duo in 2008 and have since performed extensively throughout Europe, in venues such as Queen Elizabeth Hall London, Musikinstrumenten-Museum Berlin, Tonhalle Zürich as well as Stockholm and Gothenburg Concert Halls. The duo has been invited to renowned festivals including reMusik St Petersburg, Festspiele Zürich, Tehran Contemporary Music Festival and KLANG Copenhagen. Performances have been broadcast on radio eg. Swedish Radio P2, Swiss SRF and German rbb. In 2013 UmeDuo won 1st prize at the Swedish Chamber music association competition “Ung & Lovande”, which resulted in two prestigious concert tours throughout Sweden during the 2014 / 2015 season and many more concerts to follow the coming years.
UmeDuo strives for great variety in its concert programs and wants to promote cultural diversity. Commissions and premieres by composers from all over the world, for example Malin Bång, Elena Rykova, Anahita Abbasi and Rei Munakata, are a key part of the group’s identity. These are often set side by side with transcriptions of music from the Baroque, Classical or Romantic repertoire. Collaborations with other art forms and experimental projects are also an important aspect of the duo’s activities, as well as workshops and school concerts.

UmeDuo gratefully acknowledges funding and support by The Swedish Arts Council (Kulturrådet) and The Swedish Arts Grant Committee (Konstnärsnämnden).
